Transhumanism FTW

Just wanted you guys to know that I'm working on something both new and old, and that it's going to blow everyone away. It has a very positive transhumanist message.

Speaking of, what do you all think of transhumanism?

For those who haven't heard of it, it's basically the idea that we humans will direct our own evolution with technology and that it will be a major turning point in our history. Could even lead to transcendence of old human limitations, like death and being confined to one body, and it could happen in our lifetime! (You won't have to participate if you don't want to, more for the rest of us.)

ET Excursion plays with transhumanist themes a bit, but not as much as I like since the future continuity is overall pretty dark (cataclysm in the near future, humanity spends the next 1 million years trying to recover from it). It involves a slowed pace of technological advancement and arbitrary limitations place on how transhuman they're allowed be. I want to create an alternate continuity where none of this happens.

As for ETX, it's going through a bit of development hell right now but that's because the small Philadelphia studio I was working with couldn't really handle the pressure of developing an animated show and needed to focus on something that wouldn't bankrupt them before they finished. So, now the offer is being kicked around from studio to studio in LA. If another, better studio picks it up this might be a great thing, since it will be done faster and more efficiently. Fingers crossed!

Manipulation of the human race started, about the same time your female protagonist was around (and even before that, I'm sure) - women favoring taller fathers, resulting in taller kids. It's continuing today at an RNA/hormonal level... whether it's planned or accidental... ex: parents who smoke, have children less resilient to smoking's effects.

While that's true, I think we'll be seeing some incredibly radical and rapid changes to the human condition in the coming decades. Slowly evolving over generations is one thing, but evolving at the relatively blinding pace of technological advancement is another.

You know how making a learning AI smarter than any human would be a HUGE deal? Imagine if there was some kind of interface that could merge it with your brain so the two of you could think as one. There's also some crazy stuff going on in the radical life extension field... we could be the first generation that has the option to live forever, dude.

Crazy stuff.

You just gained a follower, I am a huge fan of Transhumanism. A few things scare me about the subject, but I hope to live to see things such as immortality or at least life extension, because I would love to continue my current quality of life at least well into my 80's.

A bit of it is scary, yeah.

If it involves some kind of superintelligent AI, we have no idea how something magnitudes smarter than we are would even act. But if we start by creating an AI that's essentially just a human without a body and work to make that one smarter, he/she might be very excited and grateful.

As cool as it would be to live forever, it would also be good if we could self-terminate whenever. Though as technology advances and the world changes at an ever faster rate, I don't see why you would.

I believe in an afterlife, but also kinda believe in the old stories about humans living hundred of years and being very, very tall... something that's already in us has the potential to do that. If only we were in touch with those long abandoned parts of our brains, we could direct our own evolution like our very ancient ancestors did... just my supposition lol :)

Stephen King touched on these subjects a tad: magic of organic beings/environment, versus super science... kinda like the old tag-line for Thundarr the Barbarian, ".. a world of savagery, sorcery and super science."

This reminds me of the movie Ghost in the Shell. The conversations were deep in that particular animation...but yeah, I'm all for progression, no matter how scary it may seem. I mean, if we can utilize a single neutron to split atoms and cause a nuclear chain reaction, clone sheep, and various other mind-blowing acts, this is just the inevitable. This era is definitely the best era to grow up in considering the exponential growth of technology.

I'd like to chime in on this topic. We are ruled over by evil elite powerful families that consider us cattle. If one thinks that any benefits of this technology would be shared with the slave class then it is my opinion that they are gravely mistaken. This tech is strictly for the rich and powerful to benefit from, not us. We are merely cattle.. Farmers don't bring their cattle indoors to watch blurays and play xbox.

One last thing: they want our planet's population under 500 million. There are over 8 billion people on this planet. I doubt they want our life spans extended since they already want most of us dead.

Like I always said, immortality or bust. The population would need to be much lower, but we don't need to kill anybody, just limit birth. Something we should already be doing if you ask me. If you could handle private wealth's ludicrous scale of twenty percent of people owning eighty-five percent of private wealth, and then handle having less people to distribute resources to, there might not actually be so many people that most live in misery. Never got too into tech stuff, but I'd take any shot I could at immortality I guess.
